This is a unique opportunity to become a valued part of a small, close-knit family based in Lusaka, Zambia.
The family is seeking a high-energy, nature-loving, kind, patient, and resilient individual to support their bright, neurodivergent 3-year-old son.
He enjoys the outdoors, jumping on the trampoline, riding his balance bike, playing with switches and wheels, and is particularly strong with numbers.
The family is seeking support from a qualified au-pair for at least twelve months.
This would entail an initial three-month trial period for both the selected candidate and the family.
After this initial trial period, the family will facilitate the Employment Permit process and the candidate will remain in Zambia for a further nine months (with potential for renewal if desired by both the candidate and family).
During this time, the candidate would help the family identify an appropriate trainee in Zambia and work closely with him or her to ensure transfer of skills and knowledge.
Main Purpose of the Role To provide hands-on support for his specific developmental needs through a nurturing, consistent, and neuro-affirming approach.
A strong interest in neurodiversity and a commitment to being a secure, long-term source of support are essential.
The family is seeking someone who can assist in supporting the communication, social, and emotional needs of their young son, contributing to the familys overall goal of ensuring he is ready to enter Reception with his age group in August 2027.
Requirements Become an active member of a multidisciplinary team using the S.P.E.L.L framework.
Collaborate with his occupational and speech therapists to meet developmental goals.
Offer companionship and emotional support at home.
Support self-regulation and reduce anxiety through a low-arousal approach.
Fetch him from nursery school and accompany the family to therapy sessions.
Engage in developmental and fun sensory play, meal preparation, feeding and nappy changes.
Assist with routines using visual aids and support his executive functioning and sensory profile.
Prepare meals that are appropriate for his sensory needs.
General Requirements Valid drivers license Essential Fluent English Essential Knowledge & Skills Familiarity with low-arousal, child-led, neuro-affirming approaches Essential Previous experience working with autistic toddlers Essential A strong understanding and knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder - Essential Understanding of neurodivergent support needs Essential Training in DIR Floortime approach Desirable Ability to reduce stress/anxiety using calm and attuned responses Essential Strong verbal and non-verbal communication Essential Organisational skills and ability to implement structure Essential Social, play, and life skills Essential Relationship-building skills Essential Benefits Training & Support The successful candidate will receive training from the NDC Facilitation Academy and personalised support from a registered counsellor for 46 weeks.
Ongoing collaboration with a multidisciplinary team at The Neurodiversity Centre will be provided.

Stay in a small private cottage on the familys property.
Access to a vehicle.
Laundry and cleaning services provided.
Frequent travel with the family on weekends and holidays to their game farm in central Zambia.
Visa and travel arrangements will be covered for candidates.
Working Hours Roughly 6 hours per day excluding Sundays, most likely in the afternoons starting with collection from nursery school.
Routine and hours to be determined collaboratively with the family.
Hours may also change during school holidays.
Salary R18 000 - R20 000 net of applicable taxes depending on qualifications and experience.
Accommodation in a small cottage, cleaning/laundry services, and access to a vehicle will be provided.
Round-trip airfare from South Africa will also be covered by the family, as well as all costs related to visas and an Employment Permit.
Holidays The selected candidate will also be entitled to leave days and able to periodically travel back to South Africa (or within Zambia), at their own expense.
General The family is very flexible and willing to accommodate the start date, schedule, and needs of someone who is the right fit.
